This section specifically details how GSC Time Machine interacts with your Google User Data obtained via Google APIs (specifically Google Search Console and Google Sheets).

Data Accessed

Our application accesses the following Google User Data:

  • Google Search Console Data: We access your sites' search performance data (clicks, impressions, CTR, position, query, page) via the Google Search Console API (scope: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters.readonly).
  • Google Sheets Data (Optional): If you enable the sync feature, we access your Google Sheets to write/export data (scope: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets).
  • User Identity: We access your email address solely to identify your current session and manage local license keys.

Data Storage

  • Local Storage Only: All data fetched from Google APIs is stored strictly locally within your browser's internal database (IndexedDB).
  • No External Servers: GSC Time Machine does not transmit, store, or process your Google Search Console data on any of our external servers, cloud databases, or third-party analytics platforms. The data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it to your own Google Sheets.

Data Usage

The Google User Data we access is used exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Historical Data Preservation: To bypass the 16-month data retention limit by saving your data locally.
  • Visualization: To render charts and graphs within the extension popup and dashboard for your analysis.
  • Export & Backup: To allow you to export your accumulated data to CSV or sync it to your personal Google Sheets account.

Limited Use Disclosure

GSC Time Machine's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

2. General Information Collection

Apart from the Google User Data mentioned above, we collect minimal data to ensure the extension functions correctly:

  • Local Settings: Your preferences (e.g., dark mode, selected date range) are stored locally in your browser.
  • Usage Logs: We do not track your browsing history. The extension only runs when you are on specifically authorized domains (e.g., search.google.com).

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information or Google User Data to outside parties. All data remains under your control in your local environment.

4. Data Security

We employ multiple security measures to protect your data:

  • Local-First Architecture: Eliminating the risk of server-side data breaches by not having a data server.
  • HTTPS Encryption: All communications with Google APIs are encrypted via standard HTTPS protocols.
  • OAuth 2.0: We use the official Google OAuth 2.0 protocol for authentication. We never see or store your password.

You have full control over your data:

  • Access: You can view all your stored data via the extension dashboard.
  • Deletion: You can delete your local data at any time by clearing the extension storage or uninstalling the extension.
  • Revocation: You can revoke the extension's access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account Security Settings.
